Caladium Grow Light
Caladium leaves are very sensitive and are easy to burn with fertilizer.
Caladium grow light. Light might be a complicated issue with caladiums planted outdoors. Growing them outdoors in containers gives you more control over light conditions. Some newer selections can take more sun. Those with white in their leaves will catch every flicker of light and brighten any shady nook.
A time for dormancy. Caladium plants are super sensitive to light. The caladium prefers indirect light or moderate shade indoors. While a few newer varieties can take more sunlight the majority of caladiums are best suited to locations with part shade to full shade and will burn if exposed to too much sun.
The primary growth time for caladium varieties is spring through late summer so you can add 5 10 10 fertilizer every four to six weeks during this time. For those that wish to plant this plant in the field it is suggested that when the tubers start to germinate it will be better for you to construct a shade around the plants since caladiums do not need much light. Some newer selections can take more sun. A northern or eastern window is usually the best exposure.
When that plant has narrow leaves then it means that it can at least withstand the greater sun. Grouped together they can easily look like they are in bloom. Best soil for caladiums. The more transparent varieties are more sensitive to light compared to the less transparent varieties.
Be aware that you will have to provide what the plant needs indoors. The narrower the leaves the greater the sun it can withstand. Caladiums need well drained soil that s rich in organic matter such as mushroom compost or chopped leaves. All caladiums love filtered sunlight and shade.
You can also strew long release granules with about the same npk. Indoor caladium plants require a medium light area with protection from midday sun which will scorch the leaves. Caladiums are wonderful bright spots in a shade garden. If you re growing your caladiums as garden plants or outdoor plants provide them with filtered sun or shade.
They have very delicate thin and fragile leaves. A northern or eastern window is usually the best exposure. Use about 1 2 tbsp 3 times during the growing season. In some climates container plants can be grown in full sun with careful monitoring.
