Caladium Care Watering
The most important factors in caladium care are moisture and feeding.
Caladium care watering. Caladium bulbs or tubers should be established with one and a half to two inches of soil on top. Grow caladiums in acidic soil that s moist and well drained. The poriferous soil there however will never hold any standing water. Water your caladium often but don t over water it.
Soil is a very important factor too and therefore you will need to plant caladium plants in well drained and moist soil. Your indoor caladiums only need a liquid fertilizer every couple of weeks. Make sure that each new tuber section has at least one growing site. Water your plant evenly as soon as the leaves start to appear to keep the plant from drying up and also watering helps to increase the humidity.
Fertilize your outdoor caladiums once a month. In fact watering them on a weekly basis is recommended. Caladiums need to be watered on a regular basis especially during dry conditions. Water the bulbs sparingly until small shoots.
Indoors or out caladiums are a seasonal plant with foliage in the summer and a rest period in the autumn or winter. Spray your indoor caladium to imitate the moist air of a greenhouse source. If you re growing them indoors you can plant them in early spring. In habitat caladium will grow on limestone outcrops of tropical rain forests where they receive plenty of humidity with frequent rain falls.
Fertilizer will help strengthen the plants in order to produce adequate tubers for the following growing season. Plant the bulbs in spring when the frost has passed. As discussed in the caladium plant care guide above use slightly acidic soil.
